The alteration of the story or point of divergence is when the alternate history diverges from real history. Some authors have chosen to announce their different history from the beginning, as others prefer to carrying the cost themselves. However, they make sure to point out by one of their characters.
This change in the course of history can be due to:
- early or delayed death of a historical figure, causing a delay in the sciences;
- an unknown or different disaster in our history;
- or a different decision of a historical character, changing the course of a war.
